For Art’s Sake Fund Recipients Announced

The recipients of the For Art’s Sake Fund have been announced.

The For Art’s Sake Auction was held at Abbotsford Convent in November 2009 to raise money for fire affected artists. A wide range of metropolitan and regional artists, including some from the affected areas themselves, donated artworks which were auctioned raising a total of $16,284.

We are pleased and very proud to announce that the For Art’s Sake Auction held on the 8th of November raised $16,284.20. This money will be donated to Regional Arts Victoria based in the Murrindindi Shire this week. Marilyn Gourley is the Arts Recovery Project Officer, the position funded by Regional Arts Victoria, post fires and based in the Murrindindi Shire. Marilyn will distribute the funds to arts projects and artists within the bushfire affected areas.

An art auction will raise money for Victoria’s bushfire affected communities at the Abbotsford Convent on 8 November.

The ‘For Art’s Sake’ auction will showcase works donated by The Convent’s resident artists and many other members of Melbourne’s artistic community.

The proceeds of the auction will be administered by the Murrindindi Shire, with 100% of the money raised going directly to bushfire victims.

The catalogue of the artwork will be available online on Monday 26th of October and bids may be registered on www.forartssake.com.au

Welcome to For Art's Sake

Our aim is to gather a truly significant collection of Australian Art for the “For Art’s Sake” Auction. The Auction will present art works across many mediums by internationally recognised artists from across Australia and New Zealand. Their generous and creative donations of art will be in a live auction raising funds which will go 100% directly to those affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires.

As part of the Abbotsford Convent’s open day, the auction will take place in the Convent’s Linen and Community rooms. A preview of the artwork will be held at The Convent on Saturday the 7th of November from 2 – 4pm. The auction room will be opening from 10am for previewing on Sunday the 8th of November, with all artworks going under the hammer between 2pm - 4pm. Andrew Embling from Landmark Embling is the auctioneer for this very special event.
